Running CloverETL graph from command line

A more detail explanation can be found on this page. I will try to list down what I did for version 3.1.2 under Windows platform.

Download the cloverETL.zip. Note, you can also download the examples to try it out.
Extract the cloverETL.zip file into another folder, e.g. cloverETL. Similarly, extract the examples zip file and put it under the same folder.
Before you run cloverETL graphs, you will need Java (download separately), and the clover.bat script which is provided under the bin directory.
Add the bin folder to your environment path.
Open a command prompt and go to the examples folder. Enter one of the folder such as CTL1FunctionsTutorial. You will see the file “workspace.prm”.
run clover.bat script from this folder, e.g. type: $>clover graph\containerCopy.grf

Change fonts at once in Powerpoint 2007

I need to convert some powerpoint slides to html using toolbook, but some fonts are not supported. So I need to change all the fonts first to some others that are supported by Toolbook. Luckily Powerpoint 2007 offers such a nice tools. To do that:

In the Editing section, at the right side of the Home tab of the ribbon, click the Replace > Replace Fonts…

That’s it!

Android Emulator is not running

I tried to download and play around with Android SDK. So I followed the steps given in this link. It worked fine, then I tried to do the Hello World tutorial. However, when I clicked run->run, nothing happens.

It turns out that the emulator is not running. When I tried to run the emulator from Eclipse, by clicking Window->Android SDK and AVD manager, and create a new virtual device, and click “start”, it gives an error that says: emulator: ERROR: unknown virtual device name:’my_avd’

After I google the internet, I found out that the solution is to set the path to the Android SDK home. The reason is that sometimes the emulator is looking for a profile directory at a different location. So I set my environment variable ANDROID_SDK_HOME to the .android folder in my drive. And it all sets. The solution is given also in this link.

Firefox 4 Cannot Login to Gmail

After I installed Firefox 4 on Windows, I can’t seem to login to gmail or any google account. The login page kept on being displayed. After I searched the internet, it was suggested to clear the cache and the browsing history.

Fixing Slow Internet on Mac X

Somehow I found that the internet when using my wife’s mac is getting slower. After months of reluctance in using Mac, I decided to do a little bit of google. It turns out it is a common problem in Mac. The following two posts seems to solve my problem. What I need to do is to add in some DNS address on the Network preferences.

How to underline words in LaTeX

The normal \underline{text} seems pretty bad. It does not break at new line. So I found that we can use a package called “ulem”. This is how to do it:
\usepackage[normalem]{ulem}
and inside the text:
\uline{my underline text}

I have been using rememberthemilk.com for my to-do list software. The nice thing is that if you buy the pro version, it has sync capabilities to some of the smartphone and microsoft outlook.

My only complain is that the reminder feature for sms only work for M1, which is not my phone provider. But the rest are great.
