GCJ webplugin is not working in Box.net

I have an account in Box.net but I can’t use the java applet to upload the file. It turns out that it is due to the GCJ java webplugin used by my firefox 3. This is the default in Kubuntu Hardy.

In order to enable it, I need to use the Sun Java plugin. To install, just type

%sudo apt-get install sun-java6-plugin

and then you need to switch the java plugin to use the Sun Java plugin. To do that, follow the procedures in this post.

Switching Java plugin for Firefox 3 beta 5 in Kubuntu Hardy

The default java plugin in Kubuntu hardy is using IcedTea. If you want to use sun java plugin, first make sure you have install it using Adept or apt-get, and then to terminal and type
sudo update-alternatives --config xulrunner-1.9-javaplugin.so

This will list the available plugins, and you can choose which plugin to use. For my case, this is what I have:

There are 2 alternatives which provide `xulrunner-1.9-javaplugin.so’.

Selection Alternative
———————————————–
1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
*+ 2 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/i386/gcjwebplugin.so

Press enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number: 1
Using ‘/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so’ to provide ‘xulrunner-1.9-javaplugin.so’.

To check go to “Tools -> addons” and find java, you will see now it is Java (TM) plugin is in use.
